The single most important thing with a base layer is comfort. Yes, warmth and moisture wicking are high on the agenda too, but if you’re chafing or just uncomfortable, then even the warmest set of thermals will become horrible. A good set of thermals means you can spend an active day in the outdoors during the winter without issues like seems rubbing, material bunching up or becoming cold thanks to sweat not wicking away. That’s what makes these so good. They might not have the lofty price of other brands on the market, yet they do a fantastic job of all of the above.
The fit is great, particularly if you’re on the slimmer side of things. The tailoring seems to be more suited to an athletic build. That said, we squeezed a normally medium sized person into the small and they felt pretty good. Sweat evaporated away relatively quickly and there was no residual odour, which often occurs with cheap thermals. This means you can be on a weekend adventure where showers aren’t available and you can be relatively confident you won’t stink out your fellow campers.
The Ulladulla Body Map Base Layer is not the warmest or the most durable product on the market, but the price-point is ideal for those after a reliable thermal that will see them through an active winter.
